Overview of Mercury Travel Limited
Who Mercury Travel is, how it operates, and where responsibility sits across its contracted providers.
Full legal name
- Mercury Travel Limited
Business model and role
- Mercury Travel Limited operates primarily as a booking agent and itinerary designer, specialising in personalised, easy-going tours for mature travellers (predominantly aged 40+).
- The company does not directly operate tours, employ guides, or own vehicles. It acts as a concession holder (where applicable) and coordinates fully with independent third-party contractors and other PCBUs responsible for guiding, transportation and on-ground activities.
- Mercury Travel carefully selects and contracts only trusted, qualified providers — the majority Qualmark-endorsed or with robust, verified Safety Management Systems in place.
- All activities are low-risk, guided experiences using well-established routes and facilities; no adventurous or high-risk activities are included.
Key responsibilities of Mercury Travel
- Designing and customising tour itineraries in collaboration with overseas partner agencies.
- Booking and confirming all components (accommodation, transport, activities and suppliers).
- Acting as the central point of coordination during tours, including daily communication with guides, drivers and providers.
- Monitoring weather and DOC alerts, and making real-time adjustments to itineraries when required.
- Providing immediate support and issue resolution to ensure smooth operations in an emergency or if amendments are required.
- Ensuring all contracted PCBUs comply with relevant safety standards and Mercury Travel's operational guidelines.
Locations of operation
- Tours operate across both the North and South Islands of New Zealand.
- All activities are operated by experienced third-party operators, and walks take place on guided routes or well-established public facilities such as Department of Conservation (DOC) tracks and sites (e.g. Punakaiki Pancake Rocks, Lake Matheson).
- No off-track, remote or unguided activities are offered.
Size and structure of the operation
- Mercury Travel Limited is a small, owner-operated business managed by directors Mark Abraham and Ravit Abraham.
- Ravit Abraham is the primary operational contact, responsible for liaising with overseas agencies, quoting tours, managing on-ground coordination and serving as the first point of contact for all guides, drivers and providers.
- Mark Abraham oversees accounts, business development and compliance matters. He also serves as the company's technical advisor, providing expert guidance on safety systems, regulatory requirements and operational improvements.
- Mercury Travel holds Qualmark membership and DOC endorsement, and prioritises partnerships with Qualmark-certified or equivalently safety-focused operators.
